Senior Scala Backend Developer

We are seeking a Senior Scala Backend Developer in Europe to lead high-impact, long-term projects in our backend systems. This is a role for someone who excels in uncertainty, embraces full ownership, and is passionate about building scalable, high-performance systems.

You will contribute directly to the architecture and development of real-time systems and data pipelines, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver resilient and efficient solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve core components of a Scala-based ad exchange platform
• Design, implement, and optimize real-time and batch data pipelines
• Drive architectural decisions for high-throughput, low-latency systems
• Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams on feature development and scalability
• Ensure observability, reliability, and compliance in data handling and processing
• Strive in remote-first, distributed environment

Required qualifications

• Strong hands‑on experience with Scala, and functional programming paradigms
• Proven expertise in low‑latency, high‑throughput system design
• Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture and concurrent programming
• Experience building data pipelines (both streaming and batch) using technologies such as Kafka
• Proficiency with both SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, Redis, Aerospike)
• Experience working in cloud environments (AWS or GCP)
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and performance profiling/monitoring tools

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with Apache Spark, Flink, or other big data frameworks
• Background in AdTech (e.g., OpenRTB, DSP/SSP, bidstream processing)
• Awareness of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
• Exposure to handling large-scale datasets and optimizing their access and usage
• Experience working effectively in distributed/remote teams
• Experience with Akka

The salary range for this position is EUR 6,000–7,200 gross per month, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
