Senior Business Developer / Senior Sales Manager (m/f/d)

Overview

As a Senior Sales Manager at SMAL, you’re not just a “salesperson”. You’re a strategic door-opener and a trusted advisor. Your focus is on acquiring new clients and identifying high-value opportunities that go beyond simple project-based work. You don’t sell standard solutions; instead, you sell the core of our agency’s DNA: Digital Product Management, Digital Storytelling, and Experience Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Typical tasks are:

  • Lead Generation & Prospecting: identify and qualify potential new clients (SME and enterprises) whose challenges align with our service portfolio.
  • Strategic Opportunity Management: identify opportunities for complex projects in experience strategy and digital product design and develop compelling proposals.
  • C‑Level Consulting: act as a sparring partner for marketing decision‑makers, CDOs, and product managers.
  • Pitch Lead: manage the entire sales cycle from initial contact through chemistry meetings to final negotiation.
  • Market & Trend Monitoring: keep a close eye on the digital landscape and identify new opportunities such as AI transformation or new platform economies.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Growth: achieving SMAL’s growth targets.
  • Profit Margin: improving the average profit margin and conversion rate.
  • Business Volume: increasing the average business volume of existing customers.
  • Proposal quality: improving the quality of proposals.

Key Requirements

High level of customer contact and presence at various locations.

Willingness to travel to our customers (typically 1–2 days per week).

  • Experience: at least 5–7 years of proven success in sales or business development at a digital agency or consumer products company.
  • Domain expertise: speak the language of digital product design.
  • Closing mindset: love the thrill of acquisition, stay persistent through long sales cycles, confidently close deals.
  • Networking skills: excellent communicator, build trust, forge long‑term relationships.
  • Language proficiency: fluent in German and English.
