(Senior) Commercial Project Developer d/f/m

Stellenbeschreibung:

RWE Supply & Trading GmbH

To start as soon as possible, full time / part time, permanent

About the role

As (Senior) Commercial Project Developer in the new Data Centre Development team, you will be responsible for shaping and developing complex commercial projects, with a strong focus on data centre and power‑intensive infrastructure opportunities. The role combines hands‑on project development responsibility with active management of a pipeline and portfolio of site opportunities. You will identify, assess and prioritise suitable sites and projects, match customer and market requirements with RWE’s asset and land portfolio, and lead selected opportunities through structured development phases up to (partnership) agreements and investment readiness. A key function of the role is to enhance opportunities through the strategic integration of Asset Development, Commodity Solutions, Grid Business, Engineering, Conventional & Flexible Generation, and Renewables, supported by Market and Regulatory expertise. Regular travel to meet with external partners and stakeholders is required. The role reports to the Head of Data Centre Developments.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, structure and develop commercial projects, particularly in the data centre space, involving industrial land, power infrastructure and long‑term commercial supply agreements
  • Drive project development end‑to‑end, coordinating all internal and external stakeholders and workstreams (e.g. technical, commercial, partnerships), managing integrated project schedules and preparing internal decision‑making materials
  • Lead assessment of sites and project opportunities, evaluating technical, commercial, market and regulatory feasibility for complex bundled service offerings
  • Actively manage and shape a portfolio of development opportunities, ensuring early pre‑development activities, prioritisation of projects and timely launch of project development to reduce time‑to‑market
  • Conduct thorough market, customer and competitive analyses to identify new opportunities and align customer requirements with RWE’s asset, land and infrastructure capabilities
  • Design, plan and execute due diligence processes, drive competitive tender processes and enable customer co‑creation partnerships for integrated, site‑specific solutions
  • Build and maintain trustful relationships with key external stakeholders, including data centre operators and hyperscalers, technical and engineering partners, landowners, authorities, municipalities, and electricity and gas grid companies
  • Work seamlessly across internal teams, including Asset Development, Commodity Solutions, Site Management, Engineering, Procurement, Legal, Real Estate Management and Grid Contract Management, to scout sites, conduct due diligence and deliver successful projects
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on portfolio development, project progress, risks, and market trends

Job requirements and experience

  • University degree in business, economics, engineering, natural science or a related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in commercial project development, portfolio management or strategic business development, with a proven track record in complex asset‑based projects
  • Strong experience in originating, structuring and executing multi‑stakeholder partnerships and asset development projects
  • Hands‑on knowledge of data centres, electrical infrastructure, industrial sites and related market and regulatory frameworks
  • Established and actively maintained professional network in the data centre and technology ecosystem
  • A collaborative and proactive team player with a structured, self‑driven working style, strong prioritisation skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; fluent in German and English
  • Willingness to travel regularly
