Senior Commissioning Engineer – Biogas Plants (Freelance / Contract)

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Contract Type: Freelance

Rate: €70–110 per hour (depending on experience)

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) for the installation and commissioning of biogas plants across Germany. This is a long-term contract opportunity supporting multiple renewable energy projects, with an immediate start available.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute commissioning activities for biogas plant installations
• Support the installation, testing, and start-up of mechanical and electrical equipment
• Coordinate on-site commissioning phases including system checks, performance testing, and handover
• Work closely with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors across multiple locations
• Ensure all systems are commissioned in line with technical specifications and operational requirements
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues during installation and commissioning
• Review commissioning procedures, documentation, and reports
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and environmental standards

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in commissioning within biogas, renewable energy, or process plant projects
• Mechanical or Electrical engineering background
• Proven experience in commissioning industrial equipment and systems
• Strong understanding of biogas plant processes, or similar (e.g. waste-to-energy, anaerobic digestion, or process plants)
• Ability to work independently across multiple project sites
• Willingness to travel extensively across Germany
• Strong communication and coordination skills
• Fluent German language skills (spoken and written) are essential
• Eligible to work in Germany on a freelance/contract basis
