We are transforming cloud infrastructure operations through AI at SAP. You'll build autonomous operations capabilities within the “Apeiro Reference Architecture” ApeiroRA as part of the EU's IPCEI‑CIS initiative to strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty, solving complex challenges that eliminate manual incident response, and enable predictive detection across distributed cloud‑edge environments.

Working within the Apeiro ecosystem and the Linux Foundation’s NeoNephos community, you'll collaborate with platform engineers, architects, and SRE teams to build production‑grade systems that reduce mean time to resolution. At SAP, you'll grow your expertise in distributed systems and infrastructure automation while building operations platforms that transform how European cloud infrastructure is managed. Most of your contributions will be open source and publicly visible.

The Role

In your role as Senior Developer, you'll design and implement core components of the autonomous operations platform. You'll build Kubernetes‑native operators and controllers that enable self‑healing infrastructure, integrating AI/ML services for anomaly detection and root cause analysis across distributed environments.

Using Go and Python, you will implement standardized incident reporting systems, building operators that convert AI recommendations into deterministic infrastructure fixes, and creating knowledge base systems for runbook automation. You'll tackle practical challenges in observability integration, AI service consumption patterns, and cost‑aware usage controls.

Your code will power autonomous operations across SAP's global cloud infrastructure, directly supporting the mission to minimize manual effort and enable predictive incident management at enterprise scale.

Must‑have Skills

• Development Foundation: 5+ years of professional programming experience (e.g. with Go, Python, Java) building distributed systems with focus on infrastructure automation and cloud‑native applications
• Kubernetes Expertise: Strong knowledge of operators, CRDs, and custom controllers using controller‑runtime or Operator SDK
• Observability Skills: Experience with Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, time‑series databases, and distributed tracing systems
• Networking Knowledge: Good understanding of network technologies including IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, L2/L3 firewalls, routing protocols, and DNS
• AI/ML Integration: Understanding of how to effectively consume and integrate AI/ML services, APIs, and interpreting model outputs for operational decisions
• Cloud‑Native Practices: Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure‑as‑Code (ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, Terraform), and GitOps workflows
• Language Skills: Fluency both written and spoken in English and German

Nice‑to‑have Skills

• Resilience Patterns: Understanding of distributed systems failure modes, graceful degradation, and designing for unreliable infrastructure
• Web Development: Experience with frameworks like Angular, React, or Vue.js and TypeScript would be beneficial
