Tesla

(Senior) Electronics Failure Analysis Engineer, Energy (m/f/d)

Stellenbeschreibung:

Overview

What To Expect The Failure Analysis Team’s mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve the experience of Tesla’s Energy Products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of Energy Product systems like Powerwall, Megapack and Supercharger. This is an individual contributor role with high internal visibility that requires extensive hands-on work focused on failure analysis and root cause activities.

We are seeking a multi-faceted individual who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root causing, implementing countermeasures, and reporting on issues affecting systems including power electronics, low voltage, and battery systems among others.

To be effective in this role, the engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these electro-mechanical components and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. He/She will work with other engineering teams to root cause and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, and durability of the products.

Tesla offers the opportunity to work on industry leading products and bleeding edge technology in a fast paced, dynamic, and high visibility role.

What You'll Do

  • Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on electromechanical components from Tesla’s Energy Products
  • Investigate system assemblies, modules, components to identify root cause of failure in Tesla’s Energy products
  • Design and conduct fault replication tests and experiments on power converters and low voltage PCBA's including board rework and FW/HW testing
  • Collaborate with appropriate engineers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to drive resolution to the identified failure causes
  • Provide inputs to design and manufacturing teams to improve design and production yield. Can be achieved through lessons learnt, product teardowns etc. helping to identify risks
  • Support design reviews and DFMEAs based on prior failure experience
  • Candidate should be detail oriented, and excellent communication skills

What You'll Bring

  • BS/MS Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong demonstrable experience in Power Electronics/power converter circuits for energy storage/automotive applications
  • Electrical/Electronic design experience a strong plus
  • Strong demonstrable hands-on experience with electrical test equipment: Power Supplies, Multimeter, Oscilloscopes, and other common equipment
  • Strong & demonstrable focus on adhering to Lab safety practices
  • Extremely proficient at reading schematics and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn the different failure analysis techniques including 2D and 3D X-Ray, Cross Sectioning, FTIR, DSC, SEM, and FLIR Thermography
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Experience with hand tools, basic power tools, soldering, and instrumentation is desirable
