Senior Equipment Engineer (Transport & Installation)

About the Role

We are establishing a new Senior Equipment Engineer/Manager Role in the Transport and Installation department to support the development, handling and full lifecycle of equipment used for offshore and onshore operations. This role combines hands‑on management of transport, storage, handling, and installation equipment with strategic input on procurement, certification, and internal guidelines. The ideal candidate will bridge field operations and procurement, ensuring compliance with industry standards while driving an efficient, safe, and cost‑effective equipment program.

This role involves defining equipment requirement specifications, planning logistics, managing procurement, overseeing equipment lifecycle management, ensuring compliance, and collaborating across functions to support project execution.

Responsibilities

Definition of Equipment Requirement Specifications

  • Define technical and operational specifications for offshore and onshore installation transport and storage equipment based on project needs, safety standards, and interface requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure specifications align with design intent and project execution strategies.
  • Review and approve technical documentation and datasheets from suppliers to ensure full compliance and suitability.

Transport and Logistics

  • Plan and coordinate the safe and compliant movement of equipment between onshore facilities and offshore installation sites.
  • Optimize logistics to reduce lead times, costs, and environmental impact.
  • Liaise with freight forwarders, shipping agents, and port authorities as required.

Procurement and Supplier Management

  • Collaborate with procurement to specify equipment requirements, evaluate supplier capabilities, and issue RFQs.
  • Assess supplier performance, lead times, quality metrics, and total cost of ownership.
  • Ensure equipment meets required specifications, compatibility, and lifecycle expectations.

Equipment Lifecycle Management

  • Oversee end-to-end management of transport, storage, handling, and offshore/onshore installation equipment.
  • Develop and maintain an equipment roadmap aligning with project needs, budgets, and timelines.
  • Define and implement storage, handling, and maintenance standards to minimize risk and maximize asset availability.

Certification and Compliance

  • Ensure all equipment complies with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and class society rules.
  • Maintain up-to-date certifications, inspection records, and conformity documentation.
  • Coordinate third‑party verification, audits, and certification renewals.

Internal Guidelines and Standards

  • Develop, document, and publish internal guidelines for equipment development, procurement, transport, storage and handling.
  • Promote best practices for safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.
  • Train and onboard internal teams and contractors on established procedures.

Maintenance and Reliability

  • Establish preventive maintenance programs and schedules for critical equipment in cooperation with manufacturer.
  • Monitor asset performance, defect trends, and reliability metrics; implement corrective actions.
  • Manage spare parts strategy and inventory levels to support uninterrupted operations.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with HSE, Engineering and Finance to support project execution.
  • Provide technical input during project planning, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Support incident investigations and root‑cause analyses related to equipment issues.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate inventory records, equipment repositories, and maintenance logs.
  • Produce regular reports on equipment status, utilization, cost, and risk.
  • Contribute to annual budgeting and long‑term capex planning for equipment assets.

Safety and Environmental Responsibility

  • Ensure all transport and installation activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Promote safe lifting, securing, and handling practices; participate in safety audits.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Logistics, Project Management, or a related field; Master’s or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, DNV, LEEA) are a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum 5–7 years in equipment development, management, offshore/onshore installation, or heavy logistics; experience in the energy, maritime, or offshore construction sectors preferred.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with offshore installation methods, hydraulic/electrical equipment, handling gear, and transport equipment. Strong understanding of international standards and certifications (e.g., MD 2006/42/EC, ISO, DNV, BV, LOLER). Proven ability to create and manage detailed equipment specifications and documentation.

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Work Conditions

  • Location: Hamburg, Germany (travel to offshore, onshore – sites, port and supplier sites).
  • Travel: Moderate, based on project and operational needs.
