Senior Network Engineer (all genders) - Network (Datacenter & Connectivity)

Stellenbeschreibung:

Work Your Magic with us! Ready to explore, break barriers, and discover more? We know you’ve got big plans – so do we! Our colleagues across the globe love innovating with science and technology to enrich people’s lives with our solutions in Healthcare, Life Science, and Electronics. Together, we dream big and are passionate about caring for our rich mix of people, customers, patients, and planet. That's why we are always looking for curious minds that see themselves imagining the unimaginable with us.

Your Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our global Network Team, based at our headquarters in Darmstadt. In close collaboration with colleagues across regions, you will help ensure the stability, integrity, and continuous improvement of our enterprise network services. This is an individual contributor role with a strong focus on data center connectivity, network security controls, and integration patterns with cloud connectivity. Beyond hands‑on engineering, you will help define, ensure, and enforce global standards and align with architects and technical leaders across infrastructure and business domains. You will provide support primarily during Germany business hours, handle escalation activities via support tickets/monitoring/user reports, and participate in an on‑call rotation. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operate enterprise network solutions with focus on data center networking and related services.
  • Contribute to architecture and standardization: create/review technical documentation, reusable patterns, and reference designs; support design governance and exception handling.
  • Align with infrastructure and business architects to ensure end‑to‑end consistency across domains (including on‑prem/private cloud and public cloud connectivity integration).
  • Engineer and operate network security components (e.g., segmentation, policy controls, secure connectivity patterns) in line with security and compliance requirements.
  • Improve reliability and operational efficiency through automation, standard changes, and enhanced monitoring/observability.
  • Participate in incident handling, troubleshooting, escalation management, and on‑call duties; collaborate with internal teams and external partners.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure / networking, including designing and operating enterprise network environments.
  • Strong practical experience with common enterprise networking and security platforms (e.g., DC fabric, routing/switching, firewalls, load balancing, DNS/IPAM), ideally including technologies such as Cisco ACI/Nexus and enterprise firewall solutions (e.g., Firepower/ASA or equivalents).
  • Solid understanding of core networking concepts and protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VXLAN, VLAN/802.1Q, QoS).
  • Experience in hybrid or multi‑cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) is beneficial, especially in connectivity and integration contexts.
  • Strong documentation skills (concepts, diagrams, and structured design/implementation documentation).
  • Able to work independently, drive topics end‑to‑end, and influence through standards in a global, federated environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • English required; German is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 10% domestic and 10% international).
  • Willingness to participate in an on‑call rotation.
