Senior Platform Engineer (m/f/nb) - Big Data Platform

Your contribution to success

At Team Conrad Big Data, we develop and operate a platform that serves as the basis for data exchange, reporting, analysis, and AI. Your role will involve the following responsibilities.

• Platform & Service Development: Actively design and develop central microservices, tools, and shared libraries (using Java/Spring Boot) that form the backbone of our platform.
• Infrastructure & Automation (IaC & CI/CD): Design, implement, and maintain our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) base (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines, enabling developers to deploy their microservices (Java, Vue.js) with ease.
• Operations & Reliability (SRE): Ensure the stable and secure operation of core systems, especially Kubernetes (GKE) clusters and Apache Kafka systems; define and monitor service level objectives (SLOs) and develop alerting and disaster recovery concepts.
• Architecture Consulting: Advise application teams on microservice design and confirm new applications meet platform standards for security, scalability, and testability.
• Mentoring & Culture: Serve as a technical role model, share knowledge across backend development and cloud operations, and promote a culture of shared responsibility.

Your success factors

• At least 5 years of solid professional experience in software development, ideally focused on DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering.
• Practical experience operating and scaling event streaming platforms (Apache Kafka).
• Excellent knowledge of backend development, preferably with Java and the Spring Boot framework.
• Excellent knowledge of container orchestration with Kubernetes (K8s) and containerization with Docker.
• Strong expertise in building and managing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., with GitLab CI, Jenkins, Cloud Build).
• In-depth experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), ideally with Terraform.
• Strong analytical skills and a "you build it, you run it" mentality.
• Good to very good English skills (spoken and written); German skills are an advantage.
