Job Description

The Finisar Germany GmbH, a Coherent subsidiary, serves multiple businesses within Coherent. One focus area is the development of leading‑edge high‑performance, high‑capacity optical front‑end solutions for long‑reach optical transmission. A special field is utilizing advanced photonic technologies in support of driving highly integrated coherent products. Another focus area is high‑speed detectors, scaling up to frequencies of up to 100 GHz, utilized in research and test & measurement but more and more in communication applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain optical coupling processes for optical communication modules (fiber attach, active/passive alignment, lens/waveguide coupling, etc.).
  • Design and refine automated process sequences on alignment equipment (e.g., Ficontec).
  • Analyze process data, perform structured experiments, and improve yield, stability, and throughput.
  • Support process qualifications, documentation, and smooth transfer into manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot alignment and assembly issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain technical drawings, process documentation, and work instructions.
  • Provide hands‑on support during pilot builds, production ramp‑up, and continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Semiconductor Technology, or similar.
  • Several years of experience in optoelectronics, photonics assembly, semiconductor processing, or precision optical assemblies.
  • Good understanding of optical coupling and alignment principles.
  • Conceptual programming/automation understanding (workflow logic, sequence control, multi‑step processes).
  • Basic skills in Python, LabVIEW, PLC, or similar languages/environments used for automation.
  • Good English skills. German is a plus.
  • Familiar with working in cross‑functional teams.
