About the role
We are recruiting a dynamic Senior Programme Officer to help expand, strengthen, and innovate our TrustLaw programme in Europe, and support the delivery of strategic projects in the region. Reporting to the Senior Legal Programme Manager, EMENA, this role will play a key part in supporting TrustLaw’s community of civil society organisations, social enterprises, independent media organisations, and supporting the team on thought‑leadership initiatives.
- Supporting the delivery of projects designed to strengthen the resilience of civil society and independent media in the region.
- Building and stewarding relationships with civil society organisations, social enterprises and independent media organisations in the region.
- Designing and implementing strategies to expand and diversify our community of NGO and social enterprise members in the region.
- Supporting the engagement of pro‑bono legal service providers in the region to strengthen TrustLaw’s networks.
- Administering the TrustLaw service, including recruiting and vetting new members, collecting feedback, fielding questions, updating databases, and running reports.
- Managing pro‑bono requests, including connecting the pro‑bono client with lawyers, collecting feedback and following up with the parties involved.
- Contributing to the TrustLaw global annual strategy, and supporting the implementation of a regional strategy to expand and activate TrustLaw membership, ensuring we serve the best NGOs, social enterprises and independent media organisations, as well as the strongest law firms and corporate in‑house legal teams.
- Executing a robust communications, engagement and outreach strategy that includes member events, promotion of TrustLaw publications and newsletters.
- Maintaining a high profile for TrustLaw in Europe by attending, supporting and coordinating events for TrustLaw and the Thomson Reuters Foundation, including speaking publicly at panels, roundtables, workshops, trainings, conferences or other speaking engagements.
- Assisting with other duties as required and providing surge capacity support.
This is a full‑time, remote role based in Spain.
Qualifications
- 2–3 years of experience in the NGO, social enterprise or social impact sector.
- A good understanding of the NGO/social enterprise and social impact sectors in Europe.
- Experience delivering donor‑funded projects, and project management or coordination.
- Experience with the legal services sector and pro‑bono is highly favourable.
- Prior experience working on issues of media freedom, responsible business, digital rights or human rights is a plus.
- Experience delivering services in the NGO sector is highly favourable.
- Excellent time‑management, organisational and research, drafting and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to establish and maintain positive working relationships internally and externally with people from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.
- Being ambitious, dynamic and creative.
- Experience in Salesforce or with basic database management is favourable.
- Experience organising events or trainings is favourable.
- Fluency in English is required; other languages such as Spanish, French or German are favourable.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
- Pre‑existing right to work in Spain.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience for senior management positions.
- Prior knowledge of designing and running donor‑funded projects.
- Legal experience as a professional lawyer in custom, tenancy or general law services.
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and good judgment.
