Senior Technical Expert (m/w/d) Battery Storage Projects

As a consulting firm for institutional investors, re:cap provides professional advice on transactions and sustainable portfolio management for suitable investments. As part of its long-term asset management strategy, re:cap manages and optimises the operations of the approximately 100 project companies it has acquired to date. These companies have assets totalling over 1.4 GW in the wind, solar, battery storage and charging infrastructure sectors.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Expert in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to lead complex projects in the renewable energy sector in either Zug, Switzerland, or Hamburg, Germany. This role requires technical expertise, practical implementation skills and strategic leadership in order to deliver innovative energy storage solutions that facilitate the integration of renewable energy into modern power grids and industrial applications. You will be responsible for the execution of projects from start to finish, from conceptual design and engineering to construction, commissioning, and quality assurance. You will also play a pivotal role in international contract negotiations and due diligence processes for acquisition projects, ensuring cost efficiency, risk mitigation and technical compliance for large-scale investments.

Key Responsibilities:
In this role, your key responsibilities include:

• Technical Leadership : Design and engineer advanced battery storage systems (Li-Ion, LFP, NMC, hybrid solutions).
• Project Management: Oversee full project lifecycle, including planning, implementation, and commissioning.
• Construction Oversight: Supervise on-site installation, cabling, and integration processes, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Quality Assurance: Define and monitor battery storage testing protocols for system validation and project acceptance.
• System Optimization: Conduct simulations, performance analyses, and lifecycle assessments to maximize efficiency.
• Interface Management: Collaborate with manufacturers, EPC contractors, and grid operators to ensure seamless integration.
• SCADA & Control Systems: Manage BESS SCADA systems and optimizer interfaces for real-time monitoring and control.
• Contract Negotiations: Lead international negotiations with suppliers and EPC partners, ensuring favorable terms and technical compliance.
• Due Diligence: Manage technical due diligence processes for acquisition projects, including risk assessment and compliance checks.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in battery storage projects (design, construction, commissioning).
• Strong technical knowledge of energy storage technologies and grid integration.
• Proven experience in international contract negotiations.
• Expertise in quality assurance and acceptance testing for battery storage systems.
• Hands-on mentality and practical problem-solving skills.
• Experience with BESS SCADA systems and optimizer interfaces.
• Fluent in English (German is a plus).
• Excellent project management and communication skills.
