We are looking for a Staff Engineer (m/w/d) to serve as a strategic technical leader. In this role, you will not only solve problems but identify the problems we should be solving. You will report to a Domain Lead and act as a technically-focused peer, helping to define the vision for our platform and the AI strategies that will differentiate us in the market.

Responsibilities

Drive cross-team technical strategy. Architect high-level systems that connect customer apps, internal tools, and the data backbone, ensuring long-term scalability and resilience.
Operate with high-level autonomy. Translate vague business objectives into concrete technical roadmaps and proactively identify opportunities for impact without requiring a Product Manager to define every step.
Lead our AI Engineering evolution. Co-design patterns for integrating LLMs into our code, handling reliability, cost, and evaluation, and demonstrate how to build AI-native software to the organization.
Act as a force multiplier. Elevate the department by removing bottlenecks, mentoring engineers, and championing AI-augmented workflows.
Bridge business and technology. Partner with leadership to navigate ambiguity, translate architectural trade-offs into business value, and lead large-scale initiatives to delivery.

Qualifications

Experienced: 10+ years in software engineering, including operating at a Lead or Staff level in a modern product company.
Full Stack: Deep, T-shaped expertise with proficiency in Python and Node.js/TypeScript; understand backend and frontend, data flows, and architecture, and can build them.
"Manager of One": Self-directed and capable of creating clarity in ambiguity; able to balance coding, design, and communication without constant oversight.
Pragmatic: Avoid over-engineering; know when to invest in AI and cloud scalability.
Great Communicator: Writes clear technical documents (RFCs, ADRs) and can lead discussions to consensus and articulate business implications to leadership.

Bonus points

Production AI: Experience deploying LLMs in production (context windows, prompt engineering, vector databases, evaluation frameworks).
Event-Driven Systems: Experience with asynchronous patterns and systems like RabbitMQ, Google Pub/Sub, and Kafka.
Legacy Migration: Experience migrating legacy systems to modern cloud-native architectures without downtime.
Familiarity with Sales: Experience building software for Sales teams (e.g., CRM, scheduling).
A passion for climate tech and contributing to the decarbonization mission.
