Responsibilities

  • Concept engineering and feasibility, incl. packaging and layout within vehicle architecture
  • Design to deliver customer-driven exterior system targets for craftsmanship, function, cost and weight
  • Create vehicle-aligned components and develop design concepts and production designs in both CATIA V5 and 3DX, support creation of component specification, component DFMEA and other technical design documents
  • Interpret CAE simulation results and integrate recommendations into product design
  • Support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build events
  • Interface with design studio suppliers, process and production for manufacturing, feasibility, validation, and other engineering activities as specified for the assigned commodity
  • Mentor junior engineers and throughout the various phases of the projects
  • Support with recruitment efforts for the Exterior Design team
  • Root-Cause and Corrective analysis for production issues

What You'll Do

  • Education background in mechanical engineering; or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive exterior systems and experience in full product lifecycle through design, development, release and launch
  • Proficiency in both CATIA V5 and 3DX, good understanding of GD&T in design engineering
  • Understand the fundamental differences in design and engineering between low/high volume production, entry/premium vehicle systems and have examples or a portfolio of completed programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to integrate state-of-the-art design and manufacturing methods into product concepts and designs, as well as capability to interpret CAE results and integrate recommendations into product designs
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage difficult projects with tight timing constraints
  • Experience with various manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, thermoforming, SMC, bonding, etc.
  • Experience in defining test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing data
