Summary

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It is necessary to support the mission of the United States Cyber Command. The role is a Technical / Administrative Work Category at the Entry/Developmental Work Level.

Duties

• The incumbent performs a variety of developmental assignments in support of the overall work of the organization classified at less than the full performance level for recruitment and training purposes.
• The incumbent receives tailored instruction, guidance, training, and closer supervision designed to equip the incumbent with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful performance in the intermediate or full performance level position.
• As an advanced‑level Student Trainee in Information Technology, receives informal and on‑the‑job training intended to enhance individual technical competencies.
• Assists in troubleshooting accessibility and availability problems and initiates corrective actions.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• This national security position may require access to classified information, requiring a favorable suitability review and security clearance. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
• Educational enrollment must be on a half‑time or full‑time basis. Half‑time is defined by the academic institution that the student is enrolled or accepted into.
• Official or unofficial transcripts with the current enrollment course load must be submitted.
• Transcripts are required along with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. Failure to submit transcripts will result in an ineligible rating.

Qualifications

• Student Interns qualify based on their educational achievements. In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described below.
• Basic Requirements by grade level:
  • GG‑03: Completion of 1 full academic year of post‑high‑school study.
  • GG‑04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post‑high‑school study or an associate's degree.
  • GG‑05: Completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • GG‑07: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education or eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision after completing a bachelor's degree.

• The duration of a student trainee/intern appointment is a trial period.
• Management may select at any grade level advertised in this announcement and promotion is not guaranteed.
• This position is in the Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service.
• If you are a current Federal Career/Career‑Conditional employee, you will be placed on an Excepted appointment.
• Salary plus Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) is authorized and may be subject to change.
• This position is covered under DoD Manual 8140.
