Responsibilities

  • Serve as CYS Supervisory Program Specialist, supervising direct care staff: minimum 8:1 children in a Child Development Center (ages 0‑5) or 6:1 in a School‑Age Program.
  • Prepare work schedules to meet ratio and group size requirements; provide program oversight and accountability.
  • Monitor and analyze adult/participant ratio sheets to ensure proper staffing so children are supervised at all times.
  • Assist with recruitment and selection of caregiving staff utilizing Army CYS Standard Position Descriptions.
  • Supervise and evaluate employees based on established performance standards; ensure timely submission of personnel actions.
  • Assist directors and training specialists to plan, coordinate, and implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of children and youth.
  • Act as Assistant Director or Director in their absence up to 20% of the time; may work additional CYS facilities to provide management oversight for evening or weekend openings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with at least 24 semester hours in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or a directly related behavioral science field.
  • OR combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in a subject matter field and 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional coursework.
  • Experience supervising or leading caregivers within child/youth facility‑based programs.
  • Experience managing a classroom setting within child and youth programs.
  • Experience implementing and overseeing a structured child and youth program curriculum.
  • Demonstrated verbal communication skills through training, presentations, meetings with parents or staff.

  • One‑year probationary period may be required.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre‑employment checks in accordance with AR 215‑3, including a Childcare Tier 1 background investigation; the Crime Control Act must be successfully completed and maintained.
  • Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements, and demonstrated on‑the‑job competency is required.
  • Travel to on‑ and off‑post locations required.
  • Must have current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations in accordance with Army and DoD policy, including annual influenza vaccinations.

  • Open to candidates who currently reside within a 100 kilometer/60‑mile radius of Landstuhl, Germany. Military Spouse Preference (MSP), Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP), and Family Member (FMP) candidates are included.
