NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The predominant purpose of the Support Service Assistant role is to provide a quality domestic and catering services ensuring that a clean and safe environment is maintained for patients, staff and visitors. Please note within the Health centres it is a core cleaning service only.
You will be following agreed cleaning work schedules, methods and procedures in accordance with NHS Scotland National Cleaning Specification and Healthcare Acquired infection (HAI_ Task Force Code of Practice). There is the requirement to rotate around our clinical areas and all departments, present an efficient, high quality service to patients and staff, follow a specific schedule of work relating to defined areas. You should have a flexible approach to daily routine, use economic and safe cleaning agents following manufacturer recommended instructions, operate mechanical cleaning equipment, inform your supervisor of requirements for work materials and check delivery of cleaning supplies and equipment. You will wear protective clothing as supplied by the Department and complete all daily/weekly sign‑off sheets for areas of work. All necessary training will be offered to ensure your working environment is safe, and you are confident within your role.
