At the University of Greifswald’s Department of British and North American Studies , Chair of Anglophone Literature and Culture in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, there is a job vacancy expected to be available from 1 April 2026 , subject to budgetary regulations, for a part-time (50%)

Teaching Associate .

The position on offer is permanent. Payment will be made according to pay group 13TV-L Wissenschaft.

The degree course “Primary Education” (Lehramt an Grundschulen) was introduced at the University of Greifswald in winter semester 2020/2021. English can be selected as a third subject for the degree course. Teaching follows the guiding principles of qualifying experts for children, working in a regional network (campus schools) and facing up to the transformation processes, especially with regard to digitalisation, heterogeneity and inclusion as central challenges of future-oriented primary school education. The position on offer is responsible for the training of future primary teachers in the elective subject English, in the field of anglophone literature and cultural studies. With a view to the global changes to society, this area of teacher training focuses on the development of practice-oriented academic skills with the goal of teaching and promoting the theoretical and linguistic aspects of diversity and inclusion with the help of the lingua franca"English.

• Predominantly providing academic services in teaching; the teaching load is determined by the LVVO M-V (currently planned: 7 LVS (à 45 min.) per week)
• Developing appropriate examination formats and conducting examinations as well as supervising dissertations
• Design, organising and teaching of interdisciplinary classes and periods of teaching practice in cooperation with the units specialising in the didactics of foreign languages
• Participating in academic self-governance committees
• Possibility of participating in the research activities of the chair or conducting individual research

Job requirements

• At the time of employment, a university degree (e.g. 1. Staatsexamen (First State Examination), Master of Education, or equivalent qualification) preferably in a teaching degree course
• Teaching experience at university level in anglophone literature and culture
• Proven ability to perform scientific research
• Doctorate in British literary or cultural studies
• Ability to apply scientific and didactic methods to the education of English teachers for primary schools
• Willingness to work independently as well as collaboratively, to pursue training in higher education didactics, and to develop new class and examination formats
