Job Description

The position will be created in the framework of the Cluster of Excellence 3121 "TERRA: Terrestrial Geo-Biosphere Interactions in a Changing World", a large research initiative at the University of Tübingen in collaboration with the University of Hohenheim and Senckenberg - Leibniz Institution for Biodiversity and Earth System Research ( TERRA will develop an integrated understanding of how geo-biosphere interactions in terrestrial systems induce and respond to environmental changes. A team of more than 25 research groups will use evidence from both the geological past and the present to improve projections of future global-change impacts and assess the effectiveness of mitigation and adaptation strategies.

The future incumbent is expected to develop internationally visible research programs at the interface between geosciences and biology. Candidates who can bridge between temporal and/or spatial scales, addressing global change, are especially sought. The research should link to existing strengths within the Cluster of Excellence and its participating institutions.

Required qualifications include an outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field, recognized potential for internationally visible publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, successful third‑party funding, and teaching experience. Appointment prerequisites are:

• 51 LHG apply. The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter.

Applicants for a tenure‑track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen must have changed universities after completing their doctorates or have worked in academia for at least two years elsewhere. This Tenure‑Track position is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. Upon a positive final evaluation, these professorships will be upgraded to full (W3) professorships without re‑advertising. Detailed information about the criteria for interim evaluation and promotion can be found in the university’s guidelines for tenure review (link ). Those who have completed a habilitation will be excluded.
