We can offer you the following tasks

Lifetime and thus the exchange interval is of major importance for aluminum compressor wheels of turbocharger. The reason for this is the temperature field of the compressor wheel resulting from high circumferential speeds and pressure material temperatures in combination with the centrifugal forces arising from the rotational speed define the lifetime and thus the exchange interval. Therefore a reliable lifetime prediction requires a precise prediction of the material work; focuses the sensitivity of compressor wheel temperatures on geometrical parameters of the compressor stage and cooling system as well as the sensitivity on thermal boundary conditions of the simulation model.

Content of the work is:

  • CHT computations for evaluating compressor wheel temperatures
  • Comparison of CHT computation results with available measurement data of compressor wheel material temperatures
  • Numerical investigation of the sensitivity of compressor wheel temperatures on selected geometry parameter (geometry of compressor wheel backside cavity)
  • Application of AI methods to develop surrogate models for temperature prediction

You can help us with these qualifications

  • Masters thesis in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering or similar
  • Basic knowledge in the field of heat transfer
  • Experience in CFD simulation (preferred with ANSYS CFX)
  • Basic knowledge in turbomachinery is a plus
