VIE in Germany - Data Scientist and Project Facilitator (m/f/d)

Airbus Helicopters invites highly motivated graduates to support the Digital Innovation team as a Volunteer for International Experience (VIE). This role combines data science expertise with project facilitation to help solve business problems, improve manufacturing processes, and support product innovation.

VIE Program Overview

The VIE program is funded by the French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment and offers young EU citizens (18‑28 years old) a paid internship abroad in a technical or business role. Candidates must register on before their 28th birthday.

About The Team

The Digital Innovation (DI) team operates across Airbus Group, collaborating with multiple departments to bridge research and business. The team develops and deploys AI, machine learning, AR/VR, and IoT solutions to address manufacturing, quality, support, and finance challenges.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Translate business problems into quantitative models, sourcing data and developing solutions using statistics, machine learning, deep learning, and computer science.
• Facilitate AI projects across diverse use cases such as predictive maintenance, forecasting, planning, NLP classification, image defect detection, statistical process control, and optimization.
• Collaborate with data owners, engineers, and ML engineers to industrialise, monitor, and improve models throughout their lifecycle, ensuring compliance with AI governance.
• Contribute to the definition and industrialisation of end‑to‑end data science workflows.
• Engage within the global Airbus AI community, staying current with scientific literature and internal/external partnerships.
• Deliver training and communications as needed.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

• Degree in artificial intelligence, statistics, applied mathematics, or related field.
• Experience with machine learning and deep learning techniques in Python.
• Knowledge of ML Ops and data preparation/cleansing.
• Familiarity with agile project management.
• Fluent English (German a plus).
• Dynamic, curious, autonomous, customer‑oriented, and a team player with a rigorous, analytical, and creative mindset.
