If your answer is “Yes!”, then you might be the VIE – Software Development Engineer in Mannheim we are looking for.

Your future role

For a maximum of 24 months, you will take on a new challenge and grow your software and control system expertise in a new cutting‑edge field. You’ll be located in Mannheim, Germany and work alongside passionate, motivated, and dedicated teammates.

Day‑to‑day you will work closely with teams across the company to maintain and develop Train Control System for our current and future Traxx Locomotives generation and much more.

You’ll specifically care about the development of TRAXX locomotive train control and information systems but also contribute to other train control related projects and continuously improve our way of working, processes and tools.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Contribute to concepts, design, and requirements of train control functionality
  • Contribute to TCMS architecture and design
  • Responsible for implementing changes and new functionality
  • Responsible for evaluating problem reports from different sources such as field testing on vehicles or laboratory tests
  • Occasionally support the vehicle during train integration, testing or validation

Fulfill the eligibility criteria for a VIE assignment, including:

  • Being between 18 and 28 years old
  • Holding a relevant degree or equivalent work experience
  • Being an EU citizen
  • Not currently residing in Germany (since a VIE must take place outside your country of residence)
  • Move to the work location for the duration of the contract (24 months)
  • Knowledge of EN 50657, EN 50716, EN 50128 and EN 50129
  • Experience in electrical and schematic design activities is valuable
  • Fluent in English; German is nice to have, but not mandatory
  • Strong team spirit
  • Commitment and initiative
