W 1-Professorship tenure track to W2 in Lipid and Sterol Metabolism in Health and Disease

Stellenbeschreibung:

Overview

Kiel University aims to attract more qualified women to professorships. The Institute of Human Nutrition and Food Science in the Faculty of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences invites applications for a W1‑Professorship tenure track to W2 in Lipid and Sterol Metabolism in Health and Disease with temporary civil service status for an initial period of three years (first phase). The future job holder shall be responsible for the subject area “Lipid and Sterol Metabolism in Health and Disease” in research and teaching.

The Excellence Professorships program of the State of Schleswig‑Holstein (SH) has been expanded with funding of another Excellence Chair. Kiel University (CAU) is now establishing a W1 professorship linked to the SH Excellence Chair at the interface of life sciences and clinical research, with the aim of strengthening interdisciplinary interactions within Kiel Life Science (KLS). KLS follows the theme “Evolving Health in a Sustainable Environment” to redefine the concept of health across system boundaries in a new and integrative way.

Building thematic bridges to inflammation research within the DFG Cluster of Excellence Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation (PMI) is essential for this position. The holder of the W1 professorship will also be an associate member of the joint institution Precision Health in Schleswig‑Holstein (PHSH), a collaboration between the universities of Kiel and Lübeck, the Research Center Borstel, and the university hospital of Schleswig‑Holstein.

• Conduct interdisciplinary research focusing on the regulation of sterol metabolism and the influence of nutrition on lipid and sterol metabolism in health and disease.
• Apply innovative techniques such as metabolomics, single‑cell or spatial metabolomics, and functional phenotype analyses.
• Emphasize cellular and translational research to better understand changes in lipid metabolism and its connection to inflammatory processes in humans.
• Use state‑of‑the‑art technologies and biobanks on site.
• Actively participate in the DFG Cluster of Excellence PMI and other collaborative research activities.

Qualifications

• Preference for a degree in biology, pharmacy, medicine, biochemistry, nutritional sciences, or a related discipline, together with a doctoral degree or equivalent in one of these fields.
• Excellent scientific record with extensive biochemical expertise in metabolism and analytical methods for metabolic products.
• Strong interest in the regulation of sterol metabolism and the impact of nutrition on lipid and sterol metabolism in health and disease.
• Experience with innovative techniques such as metabolomics and related functional analyses.
• Ability to work at the interface of life sciences and clinical research and to build thematic bridges to related research clusters.

Additional Information

After successful evaluation of the first phase, the temporary civil servant status may be extended for another three years (second phase). Successful evaluation and meeting the additional requirements of § 62a of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig‑Holstein may lead to an upgrade to a W2‑Professorship.

Women are expressly encouraged to apply; priority will be given to qualified women of equal value. The university also welcomes applications from people with disabilities or a migration background. Application photographs are not requested.
