W2 Professorship (W3 tenure track position) in Quantum Algorithms, Complexity and Quantum Information Theory (m/f/x)
The Department of Computer Science at Saarland University encompasses the full spectrum of Computer Science and forms a joint faculty with the Department of Mathematics. A new Center for Quantum Technologies (QuTe) is being founded to pursue research on quantum technologies in a broad sense, covering hardware and software perspectives, and will include an outpost of the Helmholtz Center Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ).
The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saarland University, Campus Saarbrücken, invites applications for the following position commencing at the earliest opportunity:
- Position: W2 Professorship (W3 tenure track position) in Quantum Algorithms, Complexity and Quantum Information Theory (Reference no.: W2745)
- Employment: Fixed-term public sector appointment (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit) for a maximum period of six years. Positive tenure evaluation may lead to a permanent professorship (W3).
- Location: Campus Saarbrücken, Saarland University.
Responsibilities
- Active participation in research and teaching, including teaching basic courses in mathematics and computer science.
- Teaching languages are English and German (in some basic courses).
- Contribute to the new M.Sc. study program in Quantum Information.
- Play an active role in expanding research and transfer activities in quantum information theory at Saarland University and associated research institutions, particularly in collaboration with the Helmholtz Center Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ).
- Acquire external funding and contribute to joint research proposals to strengthen the department, faculty and university.
Qualifications
- Exceptional research skills proven by high-quality peer‑reviewed computer science publications and international visibility.
- Research focus in quantum information theory, preferably with an emphasis on quantum algorithms, quantum complexity theory, or other aspects of quantum information in mathematics and computer science.
- Teaching experience and ability to teach in German after a suitable time period.
- Experience in acquiring third‑party funding, ideally in large joint projects.
- Potential for collaboration across disciplines, especially with existing quantum professorships in Mathematics and Physics.
