W3 Professorship for High-Performance Materials

Stellenbeschreibung:

Overview

Technische Universität Braunschweig is one of Germany’s leading institutes of technology and offers an inspiring work environment with a wide range of research and teaching opportunities in state-of-the-art facilities. The university has about 3,800 staff members and around 16,000 students. The focus areas include mobility, metrology, engineering for health, and the future city, with core disciplines in engineering and natural sciences closely linked to business, social sciences, educational sciences and the humanities. The university collaborates with more than 20 internationally renowned research institutions and partner universities worldwide.

We offer a

W3 Professorship for High‑Performance Materials

The appointment is planned for .

Your responsibilities

The professorship for High‑Performance Materials is a key chair for research and teaching in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In the core research area of mobility, and in particular aerospace technology, metallic materials that are subject to high thermal and mechanical stress are seen as a key requirement for future mobility and circular economy systems. Accordingly, the professorship is embedded in the research field of aerospace engineering at the university as well as in the Lower Saxony Research Centre for Aerospace (NFL) and the OpenHybrid-Lab-Factory (OHLF). With its scientific work, the professorship makes a significant contribution to the further development and characterisation of superalloys and lightweight materials, including metal-hybrid materials in production and application.

The successful candidate (f/m/d) is expected to be committed to the university’s strategic goals and to actively shape its holistic development ( In addition to the classic service areas of a university (research, teaching and studies, transfer, governance and administration), this applies in particular to digitalisation, internationalisation, equality and diversity, as well as knowledge exchange.

Our expectations

The professorship addresses the following research areas:

  • Highly stressed (thermally and mechanically) materials in mobility, such as superalloys and titanium alloys, materials for future mobility fuels (LH2), metallic materials for space propulsion systems, and ceramic matrix materials and other pioneering composite materials
  • Future circular economy systems with adapted metallic lightweight materials and casting processes
  • Mechanical behaviour of materials subject to high thermal and mechanical stress
  • Material and process design for the additive manufacturing of metallic components
  • Modern analytical methods for material characterization

Essential selection criteria

  • Internationally well recognised researcher in the field of materials science
  • Successful acquisition of third-party funding
  • Experience in establishing and leading your own research group
  • Experience in independently conducting university teaching courses
  • Strong teamwork, management and leadership skills
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration within the core research area of mobility at TU Braunschweig and the NFL and OHLF research centres
  • Commitment to increasing the internationalisation and international visibility of TU Braunschweig
  • Commitment to diversity and equality

We encourage you to apply if you cover at least three of the research areas mentioned and meet several of the required criteria listed. International experience in teaching and research and the ability and willingness to teach in German as well as in English are expected. Individual career paths and the impact of childcare and caregiving responsibilities on the academic career and publication output of applicants (f/m/d) will be taken into account by the appointment committee.

Requirements

§ 25 NHG

  • A degree in a relevant field
  • Pedagogical aptitude
  • Special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work, as a rule proven by an above-average doctorate
  • Additional academic achievements, usually within the framework of a junior professorship, a postdoctoral degree (Habilitation) or achievements equivalent to a Habilitation

Notes

Technische Universität Braunschweig makes personnel decisions on the basis of suitability, ability and professional performance. We aim to increase the share of women in academic positions and particularly welcome applications from women with equivalent qualifications. People with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply and, if equally qualified, will be given preference. The university is certified as family-friendly and offers support for work-life balance, childcare, and a dual career service. The university endorses equal opportunities and diversity and invites international candidates (f/m/d). German language skills are not a prerequisite, but the successful candidate is expected to acquire sufficient language skills to perform teaching and administrative duties in German within three years of appointment. This is a permanent full-time position; part-time arrangements may be possible upon request. Applicants (f/m/d) who are 50 years or older at the time of appointment and who have not acquired permanent civil servant status will be employed with employee status.
