The successful candidate will represent the full breadth of surgical intensive care medicine in research, teaching, and critical care giving. As Professor of Surgical Intensive Care Medicine and Head of the Division of Surgical Intensive Care Medicine within the Department of Anesthesiology and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine (Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Mark Coburn), the post holder will be responsible for the provision of intensive care for all surgical disciplines. This includes leadership of the ARDS and ECMO Center and responsibility for interdisciplinary care giving in the neurological and neurosurgical intensive care unit at University Hospital Bonn.
The Division of Surgical Intensive Care Medicine works in close collegial cooperation with all relevant specialists and departments. Its established clinical and research focus includes the acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, and extracorporeal organ support.
We are seeking a nationally and internationally recognized expert with extensive experience across the full spectrum of surgical intensive care medicine, including clinical, management, and research. The successful candidate is expected to strengthen and further develop the existing clinical profile, research priorities and networks of the Division and the Medical Faculty. Excellent scientific achievements are required, including experience in conducting large scale clinical trials, translational research, and acquiring third‑party funding, alongside a strong background in teaching students.
Applicants must have completed a degree in medicine, board certification in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine, and a habilitation or evidence of equivalent academic achievements in accordance with section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW). Additional board certification in emergency medicine is desirable.
