Am Institut für Werkzeugmaschinen und Produktionsprozesse der Fakultät für Maschinenbau ist ab dem 01. April 2027 die W3-Professur „Präzisionsfertigungstechnik und Funktionale Oberflächen“ (m/w/d) zu besetzen.

Die Fakultät für Maschinenbau der Technischen Universität Chemnitz orientiert sich in ihren grundlagen- sowie anwendungsbezogenen Forschungsaktivitäten an drei Profillinien: „Nachhaltige Produkte und Prozesse“, „Wasserstoff“ sowie „Mensch und Technik“. Sie trägt damit zum Ausbau der drei Kernkompetenzen der Universität bei: „Materialien und Intelligente Systeme“, „Ressourceneffiziente Produktion und Leichtbau“ und „Mensch und Technik“. Gleichzeitig entwickelt die Fakultät ihr Lehrangebot in intensiver Wechselwirkung mit Forschung und dem Anspruch höchster Qualität kontinuierlich weiter.

Das Institut für Werkzeugmaschinen und Produktionsprozesse trägt dazu bei, indem es Lehrveranstaltungen zu Fertigungstechnik, Produktionsprozessen, Werkzeugmaschinen, Automatisierungstechnik und Fertigungsmesstechnik anbietet. Darüber hinaus repräsentiert es die Studiengänge Mechatronik / Mechatronik und Produktionsautomatisierung sowie Produktionstechnik und Produktionsprozesse mit einem breiten Angebot weiterführender Lehrveranstaltungen.

The Institute of Machine Tools and Production Processes of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has an opening for the W3 Professorship "Precision Manufacturing Technology and Functional Surfaces" (m/f/d) to be filled with effect from April 01st 2027.

Research and teaching focus

• Cutting manufacturing processes
• Ablation and hybrid manufacturing processes
• Tools and tool systems for precision manufacturing
• Functionally structured surfaces
• Data-driven modelling and optimisation including machine learning methods in manufacturing technology
• Multiphysical simulation
• Process chains in precision manufacturing technology
• Experimental and parameter-based evaluation of process and product properties

Requirements

• Practice and experience in research, including the ability and willingness to raise third‑party funding, a strong publication and lecture track record, and the advancement of young academics.
• Experience in teaching, especially the ability and willingness to teach courses in German and English.
• Experience in knowledge exchange.
• A willingness to assume responsibilities in academic self‑administration.

Preferred qualifications

• International experience in teaching, research and/or knowledge exchange.
• Special proof of qualification in teaching.
• The ability and willingness to embrace new forms of teaching and learning.
• The ability and willingness to participate in continuing education.
• The ability and willingness to engage in public relations work.

Appointment requirements

The appointment is governed by Section 59 of the Institutions of Higher Education Act in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSG). The additional academic achievements required for the position must be demonstrated through evidence of a successfully appraised junior professorship, completion of post‑doctoral studies (habilitation) or an equivalent academic activity.
