Lead Bridge Engineer - Structural Investigations (m/f/d), Germany and DACH

Unlike traditional NDT methods, muon tomography penetrates deep through concrete and steel, even at large thicknesses. Our technology is the only solution capable of capturing particles that pass through every material, producing highly accurate 3D models with up to 30x greater resolution than current market standards. For asset owners, this enables proactive, evidence-based maintenance, safer decision-making, and major cost savings.

We have been recognised in the UK as the top emerging innovation in NDT. Our award-winning technology is steadily gaining international traction, with deployments on 10 in-service bridges and assets across England, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands, Estonia, and Spain.

Leading global engineering company, AtkinsRéalis, shared insights about our technology in this article.

GScan's locations: Estonia, United Kingdom, Germany.

Join the team that’s transforming the future of sustainable infrastructure!

We have a team of 50 top talents (including 8 PhDs).

Please see the BAM Report attached. We are also in discussions with Autobahn, Deutsche Bahn, and regions (Bavaria, Hessen, Nordrhein-Westfalen) to start deploying our technology to the first bridges in Germany.
We will do our first bridge scan in Germany in Q1 2026 and in Switzerland in 2026.
Ensure the successful execution of projects utilizing this breakthrough technology, particularly with key partners such as BAM and BaST, ensuring we exceed the expectations of Civil & Structural Engineers.
Co-lead the Product & Tech Development together with our Lead Bridge Engineer and Technical Director in UK. Provide field feedback and technical insights to help refine and develop GScan’s technology.
Act as a Senior Technical Ambassador and Strategic Consultant to asset owners and engineering firms to identify high-impact use cases and define the future of DE infrastructure.

How Will We Work Together?

You’ll join us in a remote-first setup , working comfortably from your home office anywhere in Germany. For technology deployments at bridge sites, you will travel to customer locations, field deployments, or industry events within the DACH region, although the majority of collaboration is conducted online.

Who Will You Be Working With?

Reporting and Collaboration: You will partner with our Germany-based CEO Marek Helm and Andreas Schneider from the Business Development Team. You will collaborate closely with Rufus Foster (Technical Director, Lead Bridge Engineer) and with Märt Mägi (CTO, Co-founder), Madis Kiisk (Chief Science Officer, co-founder), Jüri Saarma (COO) from the GScan's management team and with Andres Nurme (Global Deployment Manager).

Interdisciplinary Exposure: As you advance our technology, you will have the chance to collaborate with an interdisciplinary group of experts across the company, including civil engineers, particle physicists, electronics and hardware engineers, ML/AI specialists, and software developers.

Project Leadership: Lead projects from initial feasibility and on-site deployment through to the delivery of final technical reports.
Structural Data Validation: Act as the primary authority to translate our physics-informed AI outputs into actionable structural health insights, providing asset owners with the data needed for critical decision-making.
Technical Consultancy: Conduct technical feasibility studies for GScan technology on complex structures (RC, masonry, and steel). You will define high-value use cases and evaluate the economic viability (Wirtschaftlichkeit) for major contractors and public asset owners.
Co-lead product development as domain expert: Translate needs and experience into insights for product roadmap and requirements.
Solution Architecting: Collaborate with Business Development and Engineering to design customer-specific solutions, including project plans, feasibility studies, and commercial ROI.
Technical Compliance: Ensure all project outputs and site operations comply with DE guidelines for civil infrastructure inspection and maintenance.

What are we looking for?

Fluency in German and English is essential; having international experience is an advantage.
Background as a Civil or Structural Engineer with a strong track record in bridge-focused projects.
8+ years in civil engineering or structural assessment roles.
Strong understanding of non-destructive testing or monitoring methodologies and industry standards.
Experience contributing to or managing complex, interdisciplinary projects.
Confident in client-facing roles, technical sales, and stakeholder communication.
Familiarity with CAD, 3D modelling, or structural analysis software.
Willingness to travel within the DACH region and Europe for site visits, customer meetings, and events.

We also consider beneficial:

Broader exposure to buildings, geotechnical structures (e.g., tunnels, mining), or oil & gas infrastructure.
International experience. The role focuses on the DACH market, but in the future you will also have the opportunity to consult projects in countries such as the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Japan, and more.
Strong professional network within the German Civil Engineering community to accelerate our market entry and growth.

A message from our CEO, Marek Helm

"As interest and demand for GScan’s technology rapidly grow in Germany and across Europe, we have made a strategic commitment to the German market. Following our initial success and the start of our cooperation with BAM, we are now hiring our first technical expert in the country."

"As our key engineering partner, you’ll lead projects from the first meeting to the final scan. Your work will help civil and structural engineers adopt our innovative technology and see the real value it brings to their bridge projects."

What makes working at GScan unique?

An opportunity to change the world & shape industry standards. Work with real global innovation and technological breakthroughs where a significant amount of decisions have not been made yet. Your work will influence new norms in infrastructure safety, maintenance, and digital modelling.

Solve complex technical challenges. Collaborate with our Civil Engineering team, physicists, hardware engineers, and project and data scientists to refine how scanning is applied in real projects.

Work together with industry leaders. With a strong interest in our cutting-edge technology, you will have the opportunity to talk with companies like Kiwa, Drees&Sommer, Implenia, Strabag, TÜV SÜD, working on high-profile projects that shape the future of infrastructure inspection and maintenance.

Create real impact. Help stakeholders of built world management to prevent failure, reduce costs, and dramatically cut CO₂ emissions.

Go beyond conventional NDT. Apply your civil engineering expertise with cutting-edge scanning that reveals what others can't see.

Grow with purpose. Join a mission-driven deep tech start-up during an exciting early (yet not too early) stage. Our team has grown to 50+ talents, we have reached €1,5M annual revenue milestone (and growing rapidly!), successfully raised 6mln+ of investments (supported by 12mln+ in grants).

End-to-end visibility. Unlike in siloed engineering roles, you'll be involved from concept to deployment — pre-sales, planning, field testing, and project delivery.

Compensation and benefits at GScan

Competitive compensation aligned with German market standards for senior engineering positions
Full travel reimbursement for customer visits, deployments, and events
High-quality IT equipment for home-office work
28 days of paid vacation
Professional development support, including conferences, certifications, and training

R&D project - main cable inspection on theForth Road Bridge
Peter Hill (Head of Structures, National Highways) summarises in 10 minute video the challenge of aging infrastructure and the giant leap forward the Moonshot program has been for asset owners. He highlights the potential of Muon Tomography and that National Highway's high ambition to find new ways to understand the condition of bridges does not exist because it's easy, but because it is hard.
