The Department of Christian Anthropology and Social Ethics at the Faculty of Catholic Theology, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Prof. Katja Winkler), is seeking to fill a position as a Research Associate, starting October 15, 2026.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

• Research and teaching in social ethics
• Academic (interdisciplinary) collaboration
• Collaboration with non‑university stakeholders
• A successfully completed academic degree, preferably in Catholic Theology
• If applying as a postdoctoral fellow: a Ph.D., preferably in Theological Social Ethics or Christian Social Sciences
• A current research project in the field of Christian social ethics
• Knowledge of the sociology of religion is desirable
• Experience in (university) teaching is desirable
• Experience in applying for external funding is desirable
• Very good command of German and English (at least C1 level in each)

Employment Conditions

The position is paid according to EG 13 TV‑L, fixed‑term until October 15, 2029, with possible extension.

The position serves the purpose of academic qualification (doctorate/habilitation).
