Job Description

The incumbent is expected to have broad and in depth experience and knowledge of accounting processes and technical expertise in automated accounting systems, including new tools and techniques being implemented throughout the finance community. This is a senior/specialist level accounting/banking position performing accounting clerical assignments of above average difficulty and resolves unusual or non-recurring problems related to various accounting functions including analyzing accounts, records, reports, journals, vouchers, and other accounting/banking documents for accuracy; investigating questionable entries and initiating corrections; and providing guidance and training to lower level accounting/banking clerks. Incumbents are expected to help maintain and ensure accuracy of financial data.

Responsibilities

• Specific work performed may vary between the different sections, divisions, and departments for this position.
• Maintain critical control tables such as currency exchange rates, chart fields, summary ledgers, and rollup trees.
• Resolve problems, troubleshoot, and provide informal training for automated accounting and reporting tools.
• Prepare special studies and reports for departments and organizations as required.
• Reconcile accounts, review reconciliations, and make sure that all outstanding items are properly cleared.
• Assist in data conversion and reconciliation for systems feeding the General Ledger.
• Accurately analyze and verify accounting / financial / operational information and error lists for accuracy and completeness and initiate appropriate correcting processes.
• Assist in process redesign to prevent future errors.
• Processing accounting/banking information including posting, comparing, computing, and reconciling a variety of debit and credit entries including those of a complex and difficult nature in an accurate and timely manner.
• Accurately analyzing and verifying accounting/banking information and error lists for accuracy and completeness and initiating appropriate adjusting entries.
• Accurately analysing ledgers, studying the interrelationships of various ledger accounts, and making recommendations for changes in practices and procedures.
• Training and providing guidance to lower level accounting clerks.
• While expected results of various individual positions may vary, they will all typically center around timeliness, accuracy, throughput, and integrity of information.

Qualifications

• Two years of college accounting courses plus at least six years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience and proven abilities in working with complex automated accounting systems
• In general, the incumbent will have completed college level accounting courses through the intermediate accounting series and will have additional course work in managerial and cost accounting or data processing and automated accounting and reporting tools
• Completion of an Associate Degree in Accounting is preferred
• Demonstrated ability to effectively use a personal computer operating in a network environment with demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and automated accounting and reporting software
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting bookkeeping principles, methods, and procedures
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of financial processes
• Seasoned judgment and analytical skills
• Professional English level is required for this position.
