Senior Manager, Accounting Operations & Revenue Recognition
San Diego, CA | 9/80 Schedule (Every Other Friday Off) + 1 WFH Day/Week
Overview
Provide strategic leadership across multiple accounting functions, including revenue recognition, contract accounting, fixed assets, accounts payable, and compliance. Oversee a multi-layered accounting organization, guide complex accounting decisions, and partner with senior leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, audit readiness, and compliance across a complex portfolio of government and commercial contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop multiple accounting teams, including managers and staff.
- Oversee ASC 606 revenue recognition across complex government and commercial contracts.
- Review contract structures and advise on accounting treatment, risk, and financial impact.
- Provide leadership across contract accounting, fixed assets, accounts payable, and related accounting functions.
- Partner with executive leadership, FP&A, Program Finance, and Contracts teams on key business decisions.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, government contracting requirements, and internal controls.
- Support external audits and regulatory reviews while maintaining audit readiness.
- Drive process improvements, consistency, and operational excellence across accounting operations.
- Guide technical accounting decisions and ensure alignment across functions.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-level accounting organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 13+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong background in revenue recognition and contract accounting.
- Experience within a government contracting, manufacturing, or similarly regulated environment.
- Proven leadership experience managing managers and larger accounting organizations.
- Experience overseeing multiple accounting functions, not just a single area of accounting.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- MBA, CMA, public accounting, or Big 4 experience is a plus.
