Adjunct Instructor – Nursing – Medical Surgical

Position Type: Temporary Part‑Time

Location: Owens Campus – Georgetown, DE

Salary: $53.65 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and instructs courses as assigned, utilizing instructional strategies, the learning management system (LMS), classroom management, and instructional/educational technology to promote student success; normal teaching contact hours are 18 per week.
  • Demonstrates best practices in instruction and classroom management that respond to students’ diverse academic needs.
  • Uses instructional technology, including multimedia, to meet students’ learning needs and achieve program objectives.
  • Assists or leads in planning and/or developing new curriculum and courses; evaluates and revises existing curriculum as part of the annual course evaluation process and contributes to program review.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOA).
  • Serves as an advisor for students, utilizing effective advisement strategies and the Student Educational Plan to promote retention and progression.
  • Assists students toward successful completion of courses by providing outreach, guidance, feedback, supplemental instruction, tutoring, and other approved academic support.
  • Provides a minimum of six posted office hours per week to students.
  • Maintains adequate and timely student records, posting grades in the LMS promptly and evaluating and reporting students’ progress and attendance.
  • Works as a team member with faculty and staff to facilitate program operations and achieve goals; provides guidance to new and adjunct faculty as assigned.
  • Assists in attaining and maintaining program accreditation.
  • Completes the New Faculty Development Program (NFDP) during the one‑year probationary period; completes the Instructional Design Technology Certificate or demonstrates mastery of its competencies.
  • Continues professional development and commitment to continuous improvement as an instructor; remains current within the academic field/discipline.
  • Participates in departmental, campus, or college meetings and serves on campus or college‑wide committees; advises student clubs and organizations as assigned.
  • Participates in developing and implementing college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the college philosophy, including departmental program planning, marketing, budget development, and public relations.
  • Assists in providing support for operations, events, and processes to enhance recruitment, enrollment, advisement, transfer, and graduate employment.
  • Participates in day, evening, and weekend program staffing as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Four (4) years of relevant nursing work experience with a primary focus in adult medical‑surgical practice.
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in Delaware or a compact state at the time of application and during employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing subject matter, teaching methods, clinical skills, and nursing protocols; ability to communicate content to a diverse population; functioning effectively in a clinical setting without limitation.
