The Role
Are you passionate about providing specialised care for older adults? We are seeking an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to work within Older People and Stroke services within the IRH to join our dynamic team focused on serving the healthcare needs of older people.
You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This is an opportunity that is also open as a training position under annex 21. You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Location: Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Larkfield Unit
- Contract: Permanent
- Position: Full‑time (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern: Monday – Friday
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop tailored care plans for elderly patients.
- Manage complex health conditions and provide advanced nursing interventions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes and quality of life.
- Offer expert guidance and support to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Participate in continuous education and stay updated on best practices in geriatric nursing.
- Take and record a patient’s history including medical, family and social history, talking to the patient, relatives or other carers as appropriate.
- Conduct a comprehensive clinical examination, including a physical examination of all systems and a mental health assessment.
- Screen patients for disease using clinical and other findings such as laboratory results or X‑ray.
- Make diagnostic decisions based on interpretation of clinical and other findings such as laboratory results or X‑rays.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and Experience
- Masters level education in Advanced Practice and assessment as competent at that level.
- Registered Nurse on the NMC Register.
- Recorded as a Nurse Independent/Supplementary Prescriber (V300) with the NMC.
- Advanced competency in clinical assessment, clinical reasoning, judgment and diagnostic decision making.
- Knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology.
- Experience with non‑medical prescribing (V300).
- Leadership in delivering and evaluating care, including practice learning and transferable work‑based learning.
- Significant post‑registration experience in a healthcare setting, some of which at a senior practitioner level.
- Commitment to lifelong learning and evidence of continuing professional development.
- Experience managing staff, leading a team, providing education and training, and establishing a supportive, learning environment.
- Successful track record in multidisciplinary team settings and promoting collaborative patient care.
- Current competency in Immediate Life Support.
