We are looking for an Applications Scientist (m/f/d) to join our team in Berlin and support our Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) product line. The position is temporary (18 months).
Responsibilities
The Application Scientist role within Bruker Nano GmbH includes assisting customers by providing technical and application support, demonstrating microanalysis instruments, conducting equipment demonstrations, and performing technical feasibility studies. The position requires close communication with sales, marketing, and product management to support existing and new customer applications. The main microanalysis equipment that would be supported includes EBSD and EDS. If you enjoy scientific analysis, want to use and help improve state‑of‑the‑art energy‑dispersive spectrometry and electron backscatter diffraction instruments, develop new analytical applications, teach customers the potential of these technologies, and like to travel, you could become a member of our Berlin Applications Team.
- Prepare EBSD samples, analyze customer samples, find solutions for their needs, and report findings in a timely fashion.
- Demonstrate the instruments and software packages to potential customers.
- Represent Bruker at trade shows, conferences and online events to support market development and sales.
- Create and present scientific work.
- Generate content for user manuals, sales collaterals, and marketing.
- Develop and present new analytical applications.
- Plan and execute advanced user training (online, in Berlin office, or at customer site).
- Create training material.
- Provide application and technical support related to the product line.
- Work closely with Product Management and Sales team.
- Produce application notes and white papers.
- Support R&D with new product development.
This position requires initiative, effective cross‑functional teamwork, a hands‑on approach with scientific and technical expertise. Preferred candidates will be self‑starters with the ability to set goals and achieve them with minimal supervision and have a high level of attention to detail.
This position is based in Berlin, Germany.
Qualifications
- Solid knowledge in Material Sciences and/or Crystallography, X‑ray spectroscopy.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Positive attitude and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- High proficiency of MS Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 30% (position based in Berlin, Germany).
- Knowledge of related methods (EDS, XRD, TEM, FIB) is considered a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; German is a plus.
- Technical credibility and strong written and oral communication skills are a must for this position. Peer‑reviewed publications in related fields preferred.

- Master's Degree or PhD in Materials Science, Physics, or related field.
- 3+ years analytical instrumentation experience. Must have experience with SEM, EDS and EBSD technology. FIB and TEM considered a plus.
- EBSD sample preparation skills and basic laboratory skills.
