About The Job

Mistral AI is seeking a Technical Lead – Applied AI Engineer to facilitate the adoption of its products among customers and collaborate with them to address complex technical challenges. The Applied AI Engineer is an integral part of our Applied AI Engineering team, which is dedicated to driving the successful deployment of Mistral AI products and building complex enterprise use‑cases. They work hand‑in‑hand with customers from the pre‑sale stage to post‑implementation, ensuring our solutions meet and exceed client expectations.

In this role you’ll manage customer relations involving multiple stakeholders (CEO/CTO, data scientists, and software engineers) and function as a key resource in externalising our research in production settings.

What You Will Do

• Deploy production‑ready use cases with considerable business impact across various industries.
• Build state‑of‑the‑art GenAI applications from consumer products to industrial use cases, driving a crucial technological transformation with our customers.
• Collaborate with researchers, other AI engineers, product engineers on complex customer projects involving fine‑tuning, state‑of‑the‑art LLM applications, and contribute to our open‑source codebases for inference and fine‑tuning.
• Participate in pre‑sales calls to understand potential clients’ needs, challenges, and aspirations, providing technical guidance on our products and explaining Mistral technologies to various stakeholders.
• Work with our product and science teams to continuously improve our product and model capabilities based on customer feedback.

About You

• Fluent in English.
• Hold a PhD / Master in AI / Data Science or equivalent self‑made expertise.
• 7‑10+ years as a technical individual contributor (data scientist or software engineer) on AI‑based products.
• Experience in fine‑tuning LLMs, tackling advanced RAG or agentic use cases.
• Deep understanding of the concepts and algorithms underlying machine learning and LLMs.
• Proficiency in cloud infrastructure and how to deploy AI‑based products.
• Experience deploying or building large‑scale, user‑centric products.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple terms to technical and non‑technical audiences.

Ideally You Have

• Contributed to open‑source projects in LLM space.
• Previous experience as a Forward‑Deployed Engineer, Staff Engineer (ML) or Staff Data Scientist.
