Title : Director, Valuation Advisory Retail

Reports to : In-country sector Lead

Job Level : P4

Business Unit : Global Value and Risk Advisory

Location : Germany, Europe

The Role

The Director is a senior professional within the EMEA VRA structure, operating as a fully embedded member of the In-Country Sector Team. Reporting to the In-Country Sector Lead and partnering closely with Pillar Representatives, this role combines deep sector- specific technical expertise with meaningful client ownership, active business development, and a seniority presence that elevates the performance of the broader team.

The Director sits at the interface between the Valuation Hub (P1–P3) and the In-Country Sector Lead layer — taking full ownership of client mandates from opportunity-receipt to sign-off, acting as Single Point of Contact for an assigned portfolio of strategic clients, serving as the signatory with ultimate sector-expertise driven sign-off responsibility according to the EMEA sector methodology framework on valuations and valuation reports, and coordinating Valuation Hub delivery with clear scope, quality expectations, and timeline discipline. This is a role for professionals with a proven track record in delivery, client management, and sector expertise who are ready for greater commercial accountability.

The Responsibilities

Sector Strategy & Commercial Performance

  • Deliver and operationalise the In-Country Sector Lead's commercial strategy within the assigned sector portfolio, translating priorities into client engagement plans, account development actions, and revenue targets.
  • Own accountability for revenue delivery, pipeline health, and renewal revenue within the assigned portfolio; prepare pricing proposals and align with the In- Country Sector Lead and Pillar representatives for approval.
  • Provide regular performance updates to the In-Country Sector Lead on pipeline, client retention, and delivery status; ensure liability cap and SLA compliance across all engagements.

Client Relationship Management

  • Act as Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for assigned one off or recurring mandates and a selection of strategic domestic or EMEA clients within the subject sector — owning the end-to-end relationship from mandate instruction through delivery.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships through proactive engagement, consistent delivery, and regular sharing of market intelligence; attend client valuation meetings and present high-quality market summaries.
  • Partner with In-Country Pillar Representatives to align client strategies across Investor and Lender pillars; resolve client concerns decisively and elevate to the In-Country Sector Lead where required.

Delivery execution & coordination

  • Coordinate mandate execution through the Valuation Hub (P1–P3) with clear scope briefings, defined quality standards, and structured handoffs; work with the Valuation Hub Leadership on resource requirements and delivery schedules. Escalate resourcing or quality conflicts to the In-Country Sector Lead for resolution.
  • Contribute to EMEA platform mandates with the sector expertise as required.
  • Coordinate with the COE for multi sector and multi country portfolio mandates to ensure consistency on the delivery.
  • Monitor delivery progress; resolve bottlenecks and scope creep proactively; partner with In-Country Sector Leads and Pillar representatives across EMEA to share best practices and support cross-border delivery.

Technical Excellence & Quality Governance

  • Lead delivery of complex valuations across the full range of instruction types — loan security, financial reporting, investment advisory, fund valuations, and development appraisals.
  • Serve as signatory layer on all assigned valuations and valuation reports, taking full accountability for technical rigour, methodology, assumptions, and RICS and other regulatory compliance; provide peer review for delivery hub outputs.
  • Apply and embed the EMEA sector methodology framework across all assigned mandates; flag deviations or improvement needs to the In-Country Sector Lead; maintain RICS Registered Valuer status.

Sector Expertise & Market Intelligence

  • Support the collection and curation of market data and comparables, ensuring information is accurate, up to date, and accessible to the wider team; and contributing to market intelligence by staying informed on transactional activity, investment flows, and pricing movements within their sector.
  • Maintain current, comprehensive knowledge of the assigned sector — occupier trends, capital flows, yield movements, supply pipelines, and macroeconomic drivers — and share intelligence proactively with the sector team.
  • Contribute to JLL thought leadership through market commentary and client briefings; build and maintain a network of investors, lenders, developers, and peer valuers to support intelligence exchange and origination.

Business Development & Growth

  • Drive revenue growth through wallet share expansion primarily within domestic clients, cross-selling of complementary JLL VRA services and strategic advisory opportunities aligned with the EMEA commercial framework.
  • Prepare fee proposals and pitch materials; participate in competitive pitches and collaborate with Capital Markets, Debt Advisory, and Agency to identify and convert cross-business opportunities.
  • Build a personal profile as a recognised sector expert through active participation in industry events, sector forums, and client networking — contributing to JLL's market presence.

People Guidance & Development

  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance and coaching to P1 Analysts, P2 Senior Analysts, and P3 Associate Directors, supporting professional development and APC progression.
  • Contribute to junior colleagues' growth through structured feedback, mentoring conversations, and co-leadership of unit projects; participate in recruitment at P1–P3 level as required.

Requirements

  • MRICS/ CIS HypZert qualification (or equivalent international qualification)
  • Commercial property valuation experience
  • Substantial experience retail property sectors
  • Expert knowledge of valuation methodologies and RICS standards
  • Proficiency in Argus Enterprise/Developer and other industry-standard software
  • Strong financial analysis and modelling capabilities
  • Very good written and spoken English

Key Competencies

  • Maintains cutting-edge knowledge of assigned sector trends and market dynamics; synthesises data into actionable client insights

Commercial Drive & Business Development

  • Demonstrates consistent commercial drive and pursuit of growth opportunities; builds institutional client relationships that generate recurring revenue and mandate loyalty

Technical Excellence

  • Provides authoritative guidance on complex valuation matters; champions RICS and other regulatory compliance and best practice adoption in line with EMEA control frameworks

People Guidance & Development

  • Develops P1–P3 colleagues through clear expectations, coaching, and feedback; provides developmental feedback and escalates concerns to the Hub leadership as appropriate

Collaboration & Influence
