Automation Engineer – Enterprise Scheduling & Workload Automation (m/f/d)

In this role you drive the evolution and modernization of enterprise scheduling and automation across mainframe, distributed, and cloud-ready environments. You collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions, while improving incident response and service quality. You will explore AI-assisted tools and new automation frameworks to boost efficiency and innovation. • Drive evolution, modernization, and optimization of enterprise scheduling and automation services across mainframe, distributed, and cloud-ready environments
• Design, implement, and continuously improve automation solutions for business-critical workloads and IT operations
• Evaluate and leverage modern technologies, including AI-assisted development tools, to increase efficiency and innovation
• Collaborate with national and international stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable, reliable solutions
• Analyze incidents, job failures, and performance bottlenecks to ensure sustainable resolutions and continuous service improvement
• Contribute to migration, transformation, and innovation initiatives within scheduling and automation
• Support operational excellence through change, incident, problem, audit, and compliance processes
• Create and maintain high-quality technical, operational, and process documentation

• Experience in enterprise scheduling, workload automation, IT operations, software engineering, or complex IT infrastructures
• Hands-on with enterprise scheduling platforms such as IBM Z Workload Scheduler, SMA OpCon, or comparable solutions
• Knowledge of distributed systems, automation frameworks, scripting, and modern software development practices
• Experience with Python, APIs, or comparable automation technologies (highly desirable)
• Interest in emerging technologies and modern working methods, including AI-assisted development, Copilot, low-code/no-code, and advanced automation toolchains
• Knowledge of mainframe technologies such as JCL, REXX, DB2, ISPF (advantage)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
• Open-minded, adaptable, and able to challenge established processes to drive innovation
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in an international environment
• Fluent German and good English language skills
