Backend Engineer - Accounting Integrations

Backend Engineer (Kotlin/Microservices): Building and scaling backend systems and microservices for spend management solutions, with an accent on accounting integrations, system performance, and reliability. Focus on designing scalable architectures, optimizing for high reliability, and solving complex technical challenges in a distributed environment.

Location: Hybrid and fully remote options available within Europe and UK (based on local office presence and healthcare provider options like Vitality, Alan, or Médis).

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable microservices primarily using Kotlin.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions across various product domains.
• Analyze system performance and implement optimizations for high reliability and scalability.
• Participate in code reviews, post-mortems, and provide mentorship to other engineers.
• Proactively address technical debt and guide the team through technical challenges and migrations.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with server-side languages, especially Kotlin , and experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency with relational databases like PostgreSQL, testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Testcontainers), and observability tools like Grafana.
• Proven ability to lead large projects, manage ambiguity, and maintain high standards for code quality .
• Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset to mentor and upskill teammates.
• English: B2+ required for company communication.
