BESS Technical Electrical Lead Engineer

Overview

In this role you design, implement and maintain Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions to support renewable integration and grid stability. You work in interdisciplinary teams within Worley to advance energy transition projects in Germany, from concept through commissioning. You shape technical specifications, select technologies, and ensure compliance with standards. This position combines engineering rigor with collaboration across PMs and other departments to deliver impactful, sustainable energy infrastructure.

Verantwortungsbereiche

Design, configuration, and optimization of BESS systems at system and component level
Prepare technical specifications for BESS projects
Select suitable battery technologies and electrical components
Support integration of BESS into existing power grids in Germany, including control systems and protection technology
Assist during commissioning, functional tests, and on-site acceptance procedures
Collaborate with project managers and other departments
Ensure compliance with standards, safety and environmental regulations
Create and maintain technical documentation
Provide commissioning support

Zentrale Anforderungen

Completed degree in electrical engineering, energy engineering, or a comparable field
Several years of professional experience in energy storage systems, high-voltage systems, grid connections, ideally with a focus on BESS
Solid knowledge of battery storage technologies (e.g. lithium-ion, NMC)
Experience with electrical HV and MV systems, protection systems, power electronics, and grid connection requirements (VDE AR-N 4120 and 4130)
Knowledge of renewable energies and their grid integration
Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. VDE, IEC, DIN)
Analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and team orientation
Good German and English language skills, written and spoken
Willingness to travel occasionally
