In the role of a Bonding Engineer you'll focus on the development, optimization and industrialization of bonding and lamination processes for optical components and prescription lenses, including driving the automatization of these processes for robust high-yield production.

  • Develop bonding, lamination and adhesive processes for prescription lenses and optical assemblies
  • Define and optimize the materials, process parameters, surface treatments and cleaning steps to achieve the required optical and mechanical performance
  • Evaluate and qualify adhesives, tapes and interlayers for optical applications and work closely with suppliers on material specifications
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers on process capability, hard- and software upgrades and acceptance tests
  • Establish robust process windows and standard operating procedures to ensure quality, repeatability, yield and a smooth transfer from lab/prototype stage into stable series production
  • Specify and support implementation of semi-automatic and fully automatic bonding equipment into production
  • Analyze product and process performance, implement continuous improvements and support on expert level troubleshooting of production issues
  • Take care of preventive maintenance of the equipment

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in material science, chemical engineering, production engineering, process engineering, or related field
  • Experience in process development of bonding, lamination, adhesive or encapsulation processes for optical, electronical or medical devices
  • Strong knowledge of adhesive chemistry and surface science related to plastics and glass bonding
  • Hands-on, solution-oriented and pragmatic work style with high attention to detail and quality
  • Ownership mindset and willingness to drive topics from concept to stable series processes
  • Structured and systematic approach to documentation and validation
