Chief Engineer - Data Center Engineering Operations (m/f), DC Engineering and Facility Operations

As Chief Engineer, you ensure that electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems in AWS data centers run at peak efficiency. You will lead diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and emergency response, acting as the focal point for facility operations across regions. You’ll manage large-scale projects from concept to completion, coordinating with engineering, automation, procurement, and finance teams. • Train and mentor the Engineering team on electrical and mechanical operations and troubleshooting
• Lead site-specific training exercises for equipment such as generators, switchgear, UPS, PDUs, AHUs, and chillers
• Oversee daily operations and maintenance of data center mechanical and electrical systems
• Operate independently with limited direct supervision
• Assist in design and build-out of new facilities; perform root cause analysis of failures
• Serve as escalation point for facilities-related issues in the region; support after-hours as needed
• Troubleshoot and report facility and data server events within SLAs
• Create and implement standard operating practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor teams
• Ensure safety procedures are followed by vendors and AWS staff

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Experience understanding electrical and mechanical systems in critical data center operations ( feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, AHUs)
• Preferred: data center or critical environment experience; operations and on-call support in mission-critical facilities
