Chief Underwriter Germany & Austria (m/f/d)*

In this senior role you will lead Munich Re’s underwriting approach for Germany and Austria, acting as the primary voice and trusted advisor to clients and senior stakeholders. You will blend medical underwriting mastery with strategic thinking to shape market guidelines, drive digital transformation, and deliver measurable value. You’ll shape cross‑functional initiatives, foster talent, and push innovation in products, services, and underwriting processes. • Serve as Munich Re's Chief Underwriter for Germany & Austria and act as the leading underwriting voice in these markets
• Build trusted relationships with senior decision-makers at key clients and represent Munich Re at industry forums, conferences and market initiatives
• Independently decide on complex underwriting and risk management matters and provide expert guidance on highly complex cases
• Define and decide on market-specific underwriting philosophies, medical and non-medical underwriting guidelines, and best-practice standards
• Shape underwriting strategies, identify emerging market opportunities and proactively drive innovation in products, services, processes and digital underwriting solutions
• Advise clients and internal stakeholders on complex underwriting, risk management and underwriting transformation topics
• Own strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects that create measurable value for clients and Munich Re
• Develop and inspire underwriters and consultants, fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, innovation and client-centricity

• 10+ years of underwriting experience in Life & Health insurance and/or reinsurance, including deep expertise in Life and Disability underwriting
• Recognized industry expert with extensive knowledge of the German insurance market and an established professional network
• Proven leadership experience, including the successful development of high-performing teams
• Demonstrated ability to manage senior stakeholders and build trusted relationships at senior management level
• Strong track record in driving underwriting innovation, digital transformation and strategic change initiatives
• Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen, executive presence and excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
• Passion for leveraging digital technologies, data analytics and AI to shape the future of underwriting
• Excellent German and English language skills
