Stellenbeschreibung:

Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure reliable access to our customers’ cloud services. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with teams across AWS to deliver high safety and security standards while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost. You’ll experience an inclusive culture that empowers you to own bold ideas to completion.

As an Amazon Field Engineer, you will provide full life‑cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. Amazon’s vision is to be the world’s most customer‑centric company, and this role is key to that vision. You will lead projects to fit out our data centers to meet evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper‑scale.

As an ideal candidate you:

  • Possess strong engineering judgment and provide recommendations despite uncertainty and ambiguity.
  • Possess excellent communication and writing skills, with attention to detail and high quality standards.
  • Be organized with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines and budget.
  • Have experience solving problems with engineered solutions.
  • Have experience managing engineering projects and consultants.
  • Build trust and relationships with stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Controls, Construction, Design, Commissioning, Product Managers, Technical Program Managers).
  • Be adaptable and inclined to get into the field to see things up close.
  • Be excited about a mix of office and field work.

Responsibilities

  • You will be the “go to” engineering resource for your region when technical advice is needed, and will engage with diverse teams to apply subject matter expertise.
  • Perform design and equipment submittal reviews for new Data Centers in your region.
  • Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Directly support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions that add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency, and enhance sustainability.
  • Interface with internal teams (data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, environmental health and safety) to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability of services.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes across multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering audits including on‑site visits; produce reports outlining risks with mitigations and remediation.
  • Act as resident engineer during new construction projects; support construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
  • Willing to travel between Data Center sites, and internationally if required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical equipment/design related to data centers (including UPS, diesel generators, switchgear, PDU, VFDs, ATS, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAHs, fans, economizers, water treatment, etc.).
  • Business‑level fluency in German (written and spoken).
