AWS Infrastructure Operations owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power and cooling equipment that maintain continuous access to the innovation customers rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

We are seeking a Data Center Facility Manager to serve as a technical resource and leader for our European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) team in the Berlin area. The manager is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical and HVAC equipment within the data center, ensuring high reliability, performance and safety. They will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission‑critical equipment to achieve 99.999% uptime or better. Infrastructure under their management includes diesel generators, fuel systems, switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, batteries, CRAC units, cooling systems, fire suppression systems, building automation systems and general facilities equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive a safety‑centric culture and ensure a safe workplace for builders and visitors.
  • Oversee the performance of critical physical infrastructure and maintain high quality work without impacting customers.
  • Lead a team of 24×7 engineering technicians, emphasizing career growth.
  • Lead improvement projects, coordinating with support teams from conception to completion.
  • Coordinate daily with third‑party vendors to ensure adherence to contracted SLAs.
  • Effectively manage the operations budget and expenditures.
  • Serve as after‑hours on‑call Data Center Facility Manager, responding to issues and managing investigations, mitigation and recovery.

About the Team

The ESC Infrastructure Operation business owns capacity delivery and ongoing operations of the ESC data centers. We keep the cloud running for the ESC region.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in people management and team development.
  • Experience in engineering work, managing large‑scale services.
  • Experience maintaining SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting.
  • Experience operating a mission‑critical team or product.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • This role requires you to be a national of an EU member state.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in critical data center operations (feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, air handling units, CRAC).
  • Experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports.
  • Experience working in data centers with emphasis on building and equipment operation.
