The Desktop Support Engineer provides first- and second-line technical support to end users across the organisation. This role is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of desktop hardware, software, and peripheral equipment. The successful candidate will be a customer-focused professional who takes ownership of issues from first contact through to resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide first- and second-line technical support for hardware, software, and network connectivity issues via phone, email, remote tools, and in-person.
• Install, configure, and maintain desktop PCs, laptops, printers, monitors, and other peripherals in line with company standards.
• Set up and manage user accounts, profiles, and permissions within Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
• Deploy and image new devices using SCCM / Intune or equivalent endpoint management tools.
• Diagnose and resolve issues with Windows 10/11 operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, and third-party software.
• Maintain accurate records of incidents, service requests, and asset inventory within the ITSM toolset (e.g. ServiceNow, Jira Service Management).
• Assist with hardware refresh cycles, including decommissioning and secure data disposal.
• Support onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring timely provisioning and deprovisioning of user equipment and access.
• Collaborate with IT infrastructure and security teams to *escalate* complex issues and contribute to problem management.
• Maintain and update technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.
• Adhere to ITIL best practices and contribute to continual service improvement initiatives.
• Act as an escalation point for junior technicians and provide guidance and coaching where required.

Technical Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a desktop support or IT support role within a corporate environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365 (including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook).
• Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and Azure AD / Entra ID.
• Hands-on experience with endpoint management tools such as Microsoft Intune, SCCM, or similar.
• Familiarity with ITSM platforms (e.g. ServiceNow, Freshservice, Jira Service Management).
• Understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Wi-Fi troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting MacOS or mobile device management (MDM) is advantageous.
• Knowledge of ITIL principles; ITIL Foundation certification is desirable.
• CompTIA A+, Microsoft certifications (MD-102 / MS-900), or equivalent qualifications are beneficial.
