The Team

The Healthcare & Life Sciences (HLS)

Team is an integral part of Alvarez & Marsal’s Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) practice. We support private equity investors and portfolio companies across Pharmaceuticals, MedTech, Medical Devices, Diagnostics, Healthcare Services, Biotech and Contract Research Organizations throughout the investment lifecycle.

Our work spans pre-deal due diligence, post-deal value creation and operational performance improvement. We help investors and management teams assess opportunities, identify risks and deliver sustainable operational and commercial improvements that create measurable value.

As a Director (m/f/d) in the PEPI Healthcare & Life Sciences team, you will lead operational and commercial due diligence engagements, value creation initiatives and transformation programs for private equity investors and portfolio companies. You will work closely with investors, management teams and senior A&M leadership to drive client outcomes and support the continued growth of the Healthcare & Life Sciences practice.

How You Will Contribute

• Lead operational due diligence (ODD), commercial due diligence (CDD), value creation and performance improvement engagements across the Healthcare & Life Sciences sector
• Identify value creation opportunities during pre-deal and post-deal phases, supporting investment decisions and transformation initiatives
• Evaluate manufacturing, supply chain, operations and organisational capabilities, particularly within pharmaceutical, MedTech and life sciences environments
• Translate operational findings into commercial and financial implications, linking recommendations to business performance and investment outcomes
• Analyse financial information including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and capital expenditure plans to support diligence and value creation work
• Lead project teams and manage senior client stakeholders, ensuring high-quality deliverables and successful engagement outcomes
• Support business development activities, proposal preparation and client relationship management across the Healthcare & Life Sciences ecosystem
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to the continued growth and development of the PEPI Healthcare & Life Sciences practice

Qualifications

• Strong experience gained within a management consulting firm
• Deep sector expertise across Pharmaceuticals, MedTech, Medical Devices, Diagnostics, Biotech or Healthcare Services
• Experience leading operational due diligence, commercial due diligence, value creation or performance improvement engagements for private equity investors and portfolio companies
• Strong understanding of healthcare and life sciences operating models, including manufacturing, operations, supply chain and commercial dynamics
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, technology transfer processes or related operational topics is highly desirable
• Ability to connect operational performance drivers with commercial outcomes and investment value creation opportunities
• Strong financial acumen, including the ability to interpret P&L statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and capital expenditure plans
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage senior stakeholders and deliver results in fast-paced and demanding environments
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a hands-on approach and strong interest in building client relationships and business development opportunities
• Native or fluent German and English language skills are essential
• University degree from an accredited institution with a strong academic record
