Engineering Manager (TypeScript, Node.js, React)

A well-funded technology scale-up is building the next generation of privacy-first digital infrastructure, enabling secure digital identity, credential exchange, and decentralised data ownership at global scale.

As the business continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead one of their core product engineering teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine technical leadership, people management, and architectural ownership while working on complex distributed systems that power mission-critical products.

Working closely with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Engineering, you'll play a key role in shaping both the technology and the engineering culture.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll remain technically involved while empowering a high-performing engineering team to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable software.

You'll be responsible for driving technical excellence, influencing architecture, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the successful delivery of product initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing team of software engineers through coaching, mentoring, and regular feedback.

• Drive the delivery of complex product features across both backend and frontend systems.

• Own technical direction, architectural decisions, and engineering best practices.

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Infrastructure teams to deliver against the product roadmap.

• Champion software quality through testing, CI/CD, observability, security, and maintainability.

• Guide engineers through complex technical challenges while remaining close enough to the code to influence key implementation decisions.

• Foster a collaborative engineering culture focused on continuous improvement and innovation.

About You

You'll have experience leading engineering teams within modern product organisations and enjoy balancing people leadership with technical decision-making.

You'll bring:

• Proven experience managing and growing software engineering teams.

• Strong hands-on software engineering background with the ability to contribute technically when required.

• Extensive experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and React.

• Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture and distributed systems.

• Experience building applications on AWS, including serverless technologies.

• Knowledge of microservices, event-driven architectures, REST APIs, and scalable backend systems.

• A passion for clean architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, and developer experience.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Experience building developer platforms, SDKs, CLIs, or developer portals.

• Familiarity with architecture documentation frameworks such as C4 and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).

• Exposure to languages such as Go, Rust, or Dart.
