Expert Researcher - Camera Optical Design

In this role you will advance mobile imaging by designing and evaluating advanced camera optics. You will own end-to-end development—from concept through prototyping—collaborating with cross-functional teams across Europe to push novel imaging architectures. You’ll contribute to patents, publish findings, and align research with Huawei’s mission to shape future information technologies. • Design and develop novel imaging optics systems for mobile devices (fixed focal, zoom, and freeform architectures)
• Lead full design cycle from concept to product, including prototyping and validation
• Perform rigorous optical analyses (tolerancing, athermalization, straylight, optimization)
• Integrate optical development workflows to enable end-to-end, manufacturing-oriented system design
• Translate application requirements into solutions, simulations, and proofs of concept while identifying key challenges
• Stay informed on industry trends and technologies to guide strategic directions
• Collaborate with globally distributed teams to achieve business objectives
• Present research outcomes at conferences/journals and foster academic collaborations
• Establish collaborations with EU-based research institutions and industry partners

• Proven experience in the design and development of imaging optics systems
• Strong theoretical knowledge in geometrical, diffractive, and/or physical optics
• Proficiency with raytracing, optical design and simulation software
• Programming skills are a plus (Python or similar)
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
• Good communication skills at engineering and executive levels
• Ability to be adaptable, self-directed and autonomous in dynamic environments
