Finance and Accounting Consultant (Freelance)

Six-month initial contract | Full-time | Immediate start | Berlin (4 days onsite, 1 day WFH)

We’re supporting a financial services platform in a fast-scaling environment that needs an experienced finance professional to provide interim cover around its year-end close, while it hires a permanent team member. You’ll strengthen processes around audit and regulatory topics and keep core accounting running accurately and on schedule.

What you’ll do

1. Support core accounting processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance and continual improvement in financial operations
2. Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements, with a focus on clarity, consistency and compliance
3. Support the year-end close and coordinate audit preparation with internal teams and external auditors, providing the documentation and insights they need
4. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (HGB, IFRS) and internal policies, keeping an eye on regulatory updates and best practice
5. Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes, improving accuracy and efficiency
6. Support budgeting and forecasting by working with Finance leadership to deliver data-driven insights and variance analysis

What you’ll bring

1. Already set up as a freelancer in Germany
2. 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally in an accounting/advisory firm or tech start-up environment
3. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field (an audit/accountant qualification is a plus)
4. Proficiency in DATEV and advanced Excel; familiarity with Pigment is desirable
5. Strong understanding of accounting principles, tax regulations and compliance requirements
6. Professional fluency in English and German (German is desirable)
7. Strong organisation and time management, with the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
8. A sharp analytical mindset, with a knack for spotting issues, improving processes and using automation or AI-driven tools
9. Available to start immediately
