Flight Dynamics and Trayectory Engineer

Stellenbeschreibung:

Near Hannover, Germany (26 miles northwest) | Defence Sector

Due to the nature of the business only NATO nationals can be considered for this role

Our client, an innovative defence technology company, is looking for a Flight Dynamics & Trajectory Engineer to lead the development of flight performance and trajectory modelling capabilities for advanced aerospace systems.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building and owning the simulation and analysis tools that support vehicle design, performance assessment, and mission planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and own trajectory and flight dynamics models, starting with 3-DOF simulations and progressing toward 6-DOF capabilities.
  • Design and implement trajectory optimisation methods, including ascent guidance, staging optimisation, gravity-turn analysis, and orbital injection modelling.
  • Integrate flight dynamics analysis into vehicle design and trade-study frameworks.
  • Develop models covering aerodynamics, propulsion performance, mass properties, atmospheric effects, and environmental conditions.
  • Create parametric studies and optimisation workflows to evaluate vehicle performance and design trade-offs.
  • Establish verification and validation processes using analytical methods, published data, and aerospace industry references.
  • Define interfaces between flight dynamics, propulsion, vehicle sizing, aerodynamics, and future GNC capabilities.
  • Support the long-term development of mission simulation, Monte Carlo analysis, guidance algorithms, and integrated flight mechanics capabilities.

Requirements

  • Experience in flight dynamics, trajectory analysis, or vehicle performance modelling within launch vehicles, missiles, spacecraft, defence, or aerospace programmes.
  • Strong understanding of orbital mechanics, atmospheric flight mechanics, rocket performance, and trajectory design.
  • Experience developing numerical simulation and optimisation tools.
  • Strong software engineering practices, including testing, version control, and documentation.
  • Solid knowledge of numerical methods, optimisation techniques, and differential equation solvers.
  • Ability to work independently and drive the development of new engineering capabilities from concept to implementation.
  • Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC).
  • Optimal control or trajectory optimisation techniques.
  • Aerodynamic modelling and atmospheric databases.
  • Monte Carlo analysis and uncertainty quantification.
  • Launch vehicle systems engineering, propulsion modelling, or multidisciplinary design optimisation.
  • Python (NumPy, SciPy, pandas, JAX), MATLAB/Simulink, or similar scientific computing tools.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary package including bonus and equity
  • Relocation support
  • Opportunity to build and own a critical engineering capability from the ground up.
  • Work on cutting-edge aerospace and defence technologies.
  • High degree of technical autonomy and influence on system architecture decisions.
  • Join a growing team developing next-generation flight systems.
